Make a difference in your neighborhood and community! WRI will be participating in this year’s Make a Difference Day. WRI’s project will be working in the E. Lorene Young Community Garden. We will work together to dismantle original planter boxes that have reached the end of their useful life and replace them with new cedar planters that we build onsite. Last year, we did one half of the garden, and this year, we will finish the rest of the garden. The new planter boxes will allow community members to grow food and flowers in the neighborhood for the next decade.
In addition, some new accessible garden beds will be created for those who cannot safely or adequately access the current beds. As we replace all of the other planter boxes, we also plan to expand the spacing between beds by a few inches so wheelchair users can get around the garden easier, enjoy this community space, and take part in the joy of community gardening. We are committed to making the WRI campus welcoming and accessible to all, and this is one step towards that goal.
This is a family friendly volunteer event! WRI will have the materials and hand tools available for the work.
Join us on Saturday, October 26th at WRI if you’d like to participate! Please let us know you’re coming by RSVPing here: https://wenatcheeriverinstitute.org/event-calendar.html/event/2024/10/26/make-a-difference-day-with-wri/499035
